This is a somewhat sparse field of rock/reef with kelp. The isn't much relief - the reef/boulders are somewhat small. It isn't a bad dive, especially if the sea lions come to visit, but it is more of a "let's relax and not do too much" kind of dive. It's also often not diveable since it is fairly exposed to the predominant W/NW swells.

A sandstone rock formation / wall structure that extends NW-SE direction in front of the reef that protects the Stillwater Cove area. Rocks here have a different texture than many other locations, with more undercut areas.

Area has decent macro life, including nudibranchs and often has Chestnut Cowries.

On a west swell, this shallow reef is better protected than any other area in Carmel Bay.

This site is a beautiful pinnacle just outside the Pt Lobos Reserve boundary. There is an abundance of encrusting life in greater multitudes than normally found at these depths. This is most likely due to the generally high visibility (more light reaches greater depths) and good flow of nutrients.

One rather notable feature is the abundance of elephant ear sponges, hence the name Elephant Ear Edge. Gorgonians and corynactis can also be found in large numbers.

Not to be outdone by the invertebrate life, there is plentiful fish in the area. Many rockfish inhabit the area, as well as at least a half-dozen Sheephead.
