|ReefCheck concluded surveying at South Monastery and Carmel River Beach. This was a celebration event with surveyors showing up in full costumes. Arrrrr...... We were told by the Pirates if we didn't survey, we would have to walk the plank. Shimmering in my boots I did what I was told. :-) I buddied up with Carol and off we went. Lots of large Anenomies and surveyed fish were counted at the first site. It is always fun to pester some of the other divers on these dives!!!|
The second site was Carmel River. Many Juvenile Rockfish were noticed. ReefCheck calls them Young of the Year. Surge on this transect made things extra fun. As we were making our ascent near the ladder of the Monterey Express, I enjoyed the rays of sun light coming through the dense kelp.
On our ride back in, we were greeted by Risso Dolphins spy hopping. I finally got a chance to meet Jan Fried, the Science Director of ReefCheck. I'm looking forward to hearing more about our data outcomes that will be presented soon.
Amazing Group Divers. All for the Healthy Reefs.
