Default Is poking a little hole in the top of my Otter Bay hood a good solution?

Hi,

Sometimes when Im diving - my mask starts leaking a bit and I feel a chill. Always there is a little pocket of gas or water up in the top of my Otter Bay hood, and I have to squish it out.

I just dove Dannys DUI hood for several weeks down in Mx, which had vent holes in the top & for the first time, this issue was solved .

Seems poking a little vent hole with a hot nail in the top of the Otter bay might provide a similar solution.

But before I start heating up nails, I thought Id ask has anyone else tried this? Will it work?

Thanks,

Kathy

Kathy~

Cricket at Otter Bay will probably say that your hood doesn't fit you properly. I tried putting holes in my Otter Bay hood at one time. It was good for awhile, then water was getting in to the hood from the hole. Now I just use a custom fitting hood and just manage another bubble. Sometimes my head stays warm from the gas that is trapped up in the hood. True cone head!! The other way you will have bubbles floating out of your head.

Thanks Dionna,

It is a custom fit, perhaps they stretch out over time?

I think it has about 200 dives.

I tried it and the nail burned my head.

If you do make a hole, choose a spot closer to the back of your head rather than right at the top. In the BAUE approved diving position, ones head might not be 100% vertical and the bubble will still accumulate.

I believe the DUI hood has an extra layer of neoprene covering the holes so that water won't drip in but I'm not sure. I can take a look at my hood later. A few holes in the Otter Bay might allow more water to drip unless you fashion a cover like the DUI hood.

I end up burping the air bubble out of my hood a few times a dive to keep it nice and tight on my head.
