Default Jelly Fish (Carybdea Marsupialis)

I asked Ian Puleston to look in his book of cnidaria species. This is what we saw on our dive Saturday out near Lone Metridium.

Carybdea Marsupialis, I think. Interestingly, the book says “primarily tropical” and the info I could find on it on the web says “Although primarily a warm-water species, it visits nearshore habitats off Santa Barbara and other southern California areas from August through November“, but the pictures in the book and on the web do look just like what we saw.

Doubt we actually have anything in Monterey that is considered tropical and only rarely seen even in San Diego. Aegina citrea looks sort of similar. Maybe that one?

That does look very similiar to what I saw. I was trying to look for a picture on your website. Metridium.com, but, nothing was there. Sorry I don't have a Cnidarian id book. Just going on what Ian had...

Thanks,
Dionna
